REFLEXOLOGY
A reflexology foot massage is not only relaxing, but incredibly beneficial.
Reflexology is often referred to as foot acupressure, because of the way it is performed or administered. Under our feet we have around 5,000 reflex points,all of which correspond to different parts of our body.
it's not new...
Foot acupressure dates back around 5,000 years to old China. And, in Ancient Egypt, the practice was alive and well, as images in some of the pyramids show people having foot acupressure administered by a practitioner. To explain it simple terms, we could say that we have a lot of energy cables running around our body. When we are sick, get injured, or have a problem somewhere in the body, these cables get bent, twisted, or sometimes, even cut off. When that happens, it hurts under the foot, in a spot directly related to the problem area in the body
the bigger the problem, the greater the pain!...
A small problem in the body produces a small discomfort when pressure is applied under the foot in a reflexology manner. This foot acupressure is applied in a different way to a normal massage. A bigger problem in the body manifests itself as a bigger pain under the foot. Why does a problem in the body give pain under the foot? I don't know!... It just DOES!!When the pressure is applied under the foot, on that special 'spot' (where the pain is) it's like putting this broken cable together with 'sticky tape' Sometimes it may only require one application to 'fix' a problem. Sometimes it may need more than just one 'press'. A big problem can take a long time to fix by yourself. You and a friend may have to work together with a practitioner to reach the best result. Other times you may be referred to some other practitioner. For example a chiropractor, a doctor or herbalist. Your reflexologist may give you some suggestions of what you can do to help your body get better, faster.
no problem, no pain...
When a 'problem' is gone, the pain under the foot goes away! The energy can now run free again!
Just as a car needs a 'tune-up' from time to time, you could say that a reflexology foot massage is like getting a tune-up for yourself.
It's a lot more simple, with no specialized equipment required. You, (or a practitioner) will press on certain spots under your foot and it balances the flow of energy.
If too much energy goes through the cables, the pressure brings it down.
If too little energy goes through the cables, the pressure brings the energy flow up.
helping your body heal itself...
You don't even need to know which one it is, too much or too little, the body fixes it up by itself.
It's very clever! wouldn't you agree?
what's in it for me?...
The benefits of having this manipulation done professionally are;
- 1. They have strong thumbs! (to do both feet takes around 60 to 90 mins)
- 2. They have a good understanding of the ‘cables’ in the body and feet
- 3. They may have felt, or seen, your problem before,so they are able to give you good advice on ways get better faster.
- 4. If you don't have any problems, a session still feels good. After the treatment it feels like walking on air!!!
The Benefits of doing reflexology on yourself, are;
- 1. You can do it anywhere, and at any time.
- 2. You can choose to target 'problem areas'
- 3. You can take care of these problem areas often (and achieve great results)
- 4. You can check your feet out by yourself, and then decide if you need further assistance, or not, from a professional reflexologist.
For best results - A combination of both. Sometimes you take care of yourself, sometimes you use a professional reflexologist.Due to copyright laws, reflexology maps or charts will differ slightly from one to another. Don't worry too much, the points may not be shown in the exact same spots, but then our feet don't always look like the reflexology maps either!! So, use your foot acupressure or reflexology map as a guide, and not laws cast in stone!
